The 2026 Royal Ascot Carnival is set to commence with a significant presence from Australian and New Zealand racing talent on its opening day.
Two prominent Australian sprinters are poised to compete in the prestigious Group 1 King Charles III Stakes, highlighting the international caliber of the event.
Overpass Leads the Charge in King Charles III Stakes
The Bjorn Baker-trained sprinter Overpass, to be ridden by Josh Parr, is positioned as the favorite for the five-furlong Group 1 contest. The impressive four-year-old has demonstrated strong form leading into the prestigious race.
Adding to the competitive field is the 2024 winner of the same race, Asfoora, trained by Henry Dwyer. Asfoora will also be vying for top honors in the weight-for-age championship race.
Star Jockeys Set for Royal Ascot
Adding further Australasian flavor to the meeting, world champion jockey James McDonald, an Australian based rider with Kiwi heritage, is scheduled to participate in multiple races.
McDonald has secured four rides across the seven-race card, offering him ample opportunities to showcase his skills on the international stage. Fellow accomplished jockey Mark Zahra, a Melbourne Cup winner, will also be in action.
Zahra is reuniting with his successful partner Docklands as they aim to achieve consecutive Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes victories, building on their past triumphs.
Keeping Track of Australasian Runners
Racenet will provide dedicated coverage throughout the Royal Ascot Carnival, compiling a comprehensive list of all runners with an Australasian connection for each day of the event.
This initiative aims to keep racing enthusiasts informed about the performances of their favorite horses and jockeys competing at one of the world's most revered racing festivals.
